Slab Tongs are available for single and multislab handling requirements and can be of mechanical, motorised or hydraulic design to suit the particular environment and customers preferences. The Somers tongs utilise high temperature self lubricating bushes at all fulcrum and pivot points to maximise the wear and life available to the tong. The bush arrangement removes the need to cross drill pins for lubrication thereby removing any potential fracture points caused through stress raisers and are maintenance free. The tongs can be fitted with powered slew if rotation is required as well as load indicators and slab width measurement devices.

A full range of slab handling products are available to the aluminium industry including up and downenders, slab extractors, slab rotators and turnover machines. The tilting machines are purpose designed particularly for the aluminium industry when extracting slabs from the casting pit and loading/unloading from homogenising furnaces. The Somers product has been proven worldwide with many smelters and mills utilising Somers aluminium handling products.
